- Copper engraving with later hand colouring. Overall size in sand mount : 53.2cms x 45.5cms. Engraved area: 389mm x 315mm. The King and Queen setting an example to their disgruntled daughters by giving up West Indian sugar as a protest against the slave trade. However the thrust of Gillray’s caricature is that it is meanness rather than principles that drives their decision. The King is rotund and good-natured whilst the Queen is bony with sharp teeth.
