Full title:Plan du Project de Fortification Sur la Ville de Maastrick et sur la fortification de Wyck Fait par Albert de Herbort Ingenieur aux depens de Mathieu Seutter Geographe et Gravur Imperial d'Augsbourg. Copper engraving with possibly original hand colouring. Overall sheet size: 64.7cms x 55.6cms. Image size: 576mm x 499mm. One small crack at the E in Meuse river (only visible when held up to the light); Little blotchiness in the central plain area of Maastrick and faint scattering os foxing in blank areas but barely visible and overall a very good example with two columns of textual history etc right and left and town panorama at bottom . Stunning and important town plan. Matthaeus Seutter was one of the most important German mapmakers of the eighteenth century. Born in Augsburg in 1678, he became an apprentice to the distinguished cartographer Johann Baptiste Homann in Nuremberg. In 1707 he established himself as a map publisher in Augsburg, and quickly became Homann's main rival. His business flourished and by 1731 he was appointed Geographer to the Imperial Court. He produced some of the century's most beautiful maps, atlases, and globes.
