Isaac Slater (1803-1883) was a publisher, engraver, printer and bookbinder. He was born in Manchester in 1803, he was apprenticed to James Pigot (mapmaker and publisher) becoming his partnersometime before 1835. He took over the business on Pigot's death in 1843. The 1861 cnsus records him as a publisher employing over sixty men (the 41 cnsus records him as an engraver). When he died in 1883 the business was eventually overtaken by Kelly's Directories.
