Published in Venice, this copper engraved map of  Nubia (present day Egypt and Sudan) and Abissinia (present day Ethiopia) during the late 18th century. The map also shows the western coast of Saudi Arabia and it notes many cities, including Mecca.  Overall sheet size: 48.2cms x 34.6cms ; image size: 396mm x 311mm.  Original outline hand colouring.  Remnants of what is probably an old binding stub on verso left edge else very good condition.

Antonio Zatta (1775-1797) was the most prominent Italian map publisher of the late 18th and early 19th century.  His firm, based in Venice, produced maps that mark an important transition from 18th to 19th century cartographic styles.  His most important work is the four volume Atlante novissimo published from 1775 to 1789 from which this map originated .
