Miniature map. Steel engraving with original outline colouring and original wash colouring to the border. Overall size in hinged, conservation mount and back with decorative v groove : 31.4cms x 25.4cms. Engraved size: 162mm x 111 mm including imprint. Explanation key top right to symbols for Mail roads, turnpike Roads, Rail Roads, Rivers, Canals and the Boundary of Counties. Very good condition apart from a little residual glue mark visible at bottom edge of mount left.Supplied with distance table embellished with vignette. Pigot is known especially for his larger series of maps which were among the first to be engraved on steel plates and so allowing for greater detail. These miniature maps display the same detail and skill and are uncommon.
