Overall size in hinged, off white fully conservation mount and back with decorative v groove : 33.9cms.x 40.8cms.Image size : 187mm.x 250mm including imprint. Very good condition. Alexander Findlay was a geographer, chartmaker, publisher and engraver. He worked for Richard Holmes Laurie compiling charts and sailing directions taking charge of the firm's hydrographic work on Purdy's death in 1843. He was elected to the RGS in 1844 proposed by his father John Arrowsmith. He became manager and eventually owner of the Laurie firm in 1858. The business was continued by his nephews Daniel, Henry and William Kettle.
