Engraved vignettes by H.Winkles, engraved by W.Lacey, of Jason Islands ; Penguins ; Fugeans ; Sea Eagles ; Christmas Sound, Tierra del Fuego UNFOLDED example in very good condition apart from little speckling at imprint and odd greyness at extreme edge of mount. The maps of the countries of the world published by Tallis are very finely engraved and include illustrative vignettes by over twenty different artists making them unusually decorative. John Tallis is among the best known of all map-makers and publishers. The maps were issued in 1851 to commemorate the Great Exhibition in London and this series is often described as 'the last decorative series of maps'.
