Steel engraving with original outline hand colouring augmented by full later hand colouring of border and vignettes which greatly adds to the impact of the map. Overall size in off white fully conservation grade mount and back : 48.1cms x 41.5cms. Image size : 326mm x 254 mm.inc publisher's imprint. Engraved vignettes by H. Warren, engraved by J.H.Kernot. The whole surrounded by a decorative border in the Greek key pattern, Vignettes of Rhodes, Olympus, two Turks and a dhow by H Warren and engraved by JH Kernot. Uncommon UNFOLDED example in very good condition apart from a little greyness bottom left margin at mount edge - barely visible. The maps of the countries of the world published by Tallis are very finely engraved and include illustrative vignettes by over twenty different artists making them unusually decorative ; indeed this series is described as 'the last decorative series of maps'.
