Key to the seven Hundreds (administrative areas); Explanation key showing Turnpike Roads, Rail Roads and Proposed Rail Roads etc. Centre fold as published, In 1841, Joshua Archer produced 17 ecclesiastical maps for 'The British Magazine' but he is best known for the series of county maps he engraved for the 'Curiosities of Great Britain' published by Thomas Dugdale. These finely engraved maps are characteristic of the functional style practised by most Victorian cartographers who rejected the highly decorative style of their predecessors.
