PLan of London improved to 1840 (Map title) Cruchley's New Plan of London Engraved in a superior clear style, shewing the new improvements at London Bridge, Saint James's Park, Hyde Park and Regent's Park; with the East and West India Docks, the London Docks, and the new Docks of St Katherine extending East and West A Distance of Twelve Miles also containing a General Index to upwards of 5000 Streets, Public Buildings etc Various Additions have been accurately inserted to the present time from original and actual survey, together with the improvements at Charing Cross etc Engraved and Published by G.F. Cruchley, 81 Fleet Street (Corner of Salisbury Square). Map Seller And Publisher. (Title on label on front of case). Overall sheet size 141.8cms x 56.2cms. Howgego 307 (11a) Engraved map hand coloured in outline, dissected and mounted on linen. The edges are bound with green silk folding into green cloth slipcase with yellow label on the front and two other small hand written labels saying ' London'. Slight offsetting on map - please view carefully on the magnified image - else clean, bright and crisp. Slip case in good condition, slight fraying on one side and some staining top left especially to large yellow label. Fascinating map in very good condition. Cruchley learned his trade from Aaron Arrowsmith, a member of a well-known family of English mapmakers, and began to work for himself in 1823. (During the first few years of his new business, the imprint on his maps included the words "From Arrowsmith's."") He was located at 38 Ludgate Street until 1834
