. Around 1655 Moxon (1627-1700 ) visited Amsterdam, probably to learn from the Dutch if there was a northern passage to the Indies. In Amsterdam he met father Claes and son Nicolaes Visscher. He used their bible-maps for a set of bible-maps of his own. These appeared for the first time in1671 in his book Sacred Geographie or Scriptural Maps. This map shows the route taken by St Paul in the Mediterranean,' This prickt line shews the Navigation of the Apostle Paul from Jerusalem to Rome'.   In the Mediterranean Sea 7 ships are drawn. At the top of the map are the arms of Humphrey Lord Bishop of London; scale of distance in cartouche on right carried aloft by putti; left three putti holdan Explanation key ,'the meaning of these Marks' : Citties of Refuge, Kingly Citties, Levittical Cities, Common Citties, Castles, Village' Highly decorative cartouche bottom middle flanked by four biblical scenes and Atlas to the left and figure holding a globe to the right. Beautiful clear engraving with much detail.
