A note on the map next to the Pitcairn Islands reads: This Island is inhabited by the children of some of the Mutineers of the Bounty who after going to Otaheite [Tahiti], where they married some of the Otaheitans, settled here in 1790. Another note next to O-Why-Hee in the Sandwich Islands (now Hawaii) states : here Capt. Cook was killed on Sunday Feb. 14th 1779. The date that places were discovered is noted e.g. Van Dieman's Land 1642, Campbells Island 1810, Aukland Island 1806. Centrefold as published, odd handling mark to the margins and one fox spot above the word Greenwich at bottom neatline else very good condition. Sidney Hall was an engraver, cartographer and copperplate printer. Worms and Baynton-Williams state in,'British Map Engravers' that Hall was almost certainly the first engraver to use the new harder steel plates for map work, using plates manufactured by the Jacob Perkins process as early as 1821. He died at the age of forty two and his widow Selina Hall, continued the business, her practice of signing her engravings simply as,'S.Hall' has caused much confusion among bibliographers.
