2nd edition. Copper engraving with original full wash hand colouring. Below the title, top left, is a compass indicator and the explanation Jones and Smith sculp 14 Beaufort Buildings, Strand; above the compass : January 6th 1804, Smith and Jones (Jones being the engraver) became the unacknowledged basis for many later maps of Monmouthshire. There is a key or ‘explanation’ bottom left showing that the map marks turnpike roads, churches and chapels and parks . Unmounted. Overall size : 54cms x 63.6 cms. Image size: 450 x 500mm. Central crease as published. One slight separation at the edge of centrefold on right side and three faint green marks in the Bristol Channel else very good condition.
