Long title: A New and  Accurate Map of North America, from the best Authorities.
Copper engraving with full wash original hand colouring, the different colours indicating the different boundaries in this case red, yellow and green.  Overall sheet size: 37cms x 31.5cms; image size: 330mm x 282mm.  Overall browning, odd mark to margins and to the right of the cartouche else very good.  Uncommon map of North America, from Brown's General Atlas (the first Scottish atlas), engraved by Menzies.  Shows a  River of the West, extending from the Juan De Fuca entrance to the R. Oregan and Portage, based upon Carver. Massive Quivira dominates the West. New Albion is denoted. Sir Francis Drake Harbor is shown, noting his landing in 1571. Monterey or New Year's harbour, Pedro Bay, St. Barbara and SanDiego are located. Good detail along the NW Coast of America, based upon Cook's explorations . Many Indian Tribes noted. The US extends only to the Mississippi. East and West Florida shown.  Two brown marks top right and odd mark to margins else very good condition - see images.


Thomas Brown 1764-1820 was an Edinburgh based bookseller, publisher, printseller, stationer and originally an engraver.  His maps are uncommon.
