Copper engraving with original hand colouring. Overall sheet size: 61cms x 39cms; image size: 587mm x 362mm. Australia is New Holland and Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) is shown as part of the southern coast. The voyages of Capt Cook are marked and Owyhee is labelled ‘the Island where Cap Cook was killed’. Full original wash colouring. However there is brown markings in the blank areas - please examine carefully. this is reflected in the price.
Thomas Brown 1764-1820 was an Edinburgh based bookseller, publisher, printseller, stationer and originally an engraver. His maps are uncommon and this map is from the the first general atlas published in Scotland.
