A birds eye view from Suez in the west to Damietta and Port Said in the east bordering the Mediterranean Sea, showing Cairo above. The British invaded Egypt on May 20th 1882 in support of the Khedive after a coup attempt, and at the time of publication of this map (September 2nd 1882), British troops were still fighting the rebels.  The British wanted to protect the strategically important trade route  of the Suez Canal.   A few days later on September 13th, British troops fought and routed them at Tel-el-Kabir. North oriented to the right.
