Long title: A New and Accurate Map of the Islands and Channels between China and New Holland.  Copper engraving with full wash original hand colouring, the different colours indicating the different boundaries.  Overall sheet size: 37.8cms x 31.7cms; image size: 333mm x 292mm. Van Diemen’s Land shown as part of New Holland at bottom of the map.  The map covers the region between Formosa and Hainan islands in the North and Australia in the South.  The areas from  Burma to Taiwan are included together with parts of China, and south to Australia, including the Philippines, Indonesia, and New Guinea. Shows "G. F. de Wits Land" and several other place names on the Australian coasts. A highly detailed map naming many small islands.  Some brown spotting in China sea and one spot on the ‘o’ in Borneo and on line of Tropic of Cancer - please look at magnified image - little faint browning in Indian Ocean else very good condition. Uncommon map of desirable area and interesting Australian item.

Thomas Brown 1764-1820 was an Edinburgh based bookseller, publisher, printseller, stationer and originally an engraver.  His maps are uncommon.
